  週末の午後、高齢の家族や子供を連れてホテルに到着した際のことです。入り口に近づくと、ドアマンがすぐに歩み寄り、高齢者の手荷物や子供のスーツケースを預かってフロントまで運んでくれました。さらに、移動で喉が渇いているだろうと、子供に温かいハチミツ水を差し出す気遣いも見せてくれました。チェックインの際、観光目的の家族連れだと伝えると、高層階のファミリールームへ無料でアップグレードしてくれました。それだけでなく、手書きの「観光・グルメマップ」も手渡してくれました。そこには、人混みを避けて外灘へ行ける近道や、周辺の空いている老舗点心店、さらには近隣の病院の位置まで記されていました。高齢者や子供連れで、万が一の事態が起きた際に困らないようにという配慮でした。
  チェックイン後、翌日の子供の発表会用の衣装にシワができていることに気づきました。ダメ元でフロントに電話してみたところ、なんと10分もしないうちにスタッフがプロ仕様のアイロン機材を持って部屋に来てくれました。衣装をきれいにシワなく仕上げてくれた上、清潔な防塵カバーに入れて、「翌日出かける際にそのまま持っていけますよ」と声をかけてくれました。深夜、子供が急に微熱を出した際、フロントに温かいお湯と子供用の解熱剤があるか尋ねました。すると数分後、スタッフがお湯と常備薬の解熱剤だけでなく、温かくて柔らかい「アワ（小米）のお粥」も持ってきてくれたのです。「熱があって食欲がないでしょうから、少しお腹に入れると楽になりますよ」という言葉と共に。決して事務的な対応ではなく、心からの気遣いを感じました。チェックアウトの日は慌ただしく出発してしまい、高齢者の常備薬が入った手提げバッグを客室に置き忘れてしまいました。ホテルを離れて2時間以上経ち、豫園（よえん）の観光を半分ほど終えた頃にようやく気づき、ダメ元でホテルに電話をかけてみました。すると、フロントスタッフがすぐに客室係へ連絡を取ってくれ、清掃時にバッグが既に大切に保管されていたことが分かりました。スタッフはバッグをフロントの貴重品保管庫に預かってくれただけでなく、市内配送サービスの手配まで自ら提案してくれました。私たちがわざわざホテルへ戻って観光時間を無駄にすることを気遣い、配送の手続きも先回りして手配してくれたのです。その間、一度も面倒くさがるような素振りや言い訳は一切ありませんでした。
